About Taunya Tae Waxham

I was born in Iowa. But grew up overseas, as a navy brat, in places like: Ethiopia, Iceland, England, Virginia, Spain and Turkey. I returned to Virginia in 1992, and haven't moved yet. Which if you are a 'brat' you know that staying somewhere for longer than 2 years is a miracle.

I put myself through college while I worked full-time, and graduated with an Associates Fine Arts degree in 1999. I worked in the commercial printing business as a pre-press graphic artist for about 8 years and in 2001 I began Artzy-One Studio Creative Services. I eventually realized that my clients needed photography services. In 2005 a few of my photographs were published by Coastal Living Magazine (CLM) in the September Issue for the article "So You Want To Live In...". It wasn't until I attended a VPPA meeting in 2007, I discovered that I'd always been a photographer—It just took me 20 some years to figure it out!

Today I am very interested in photographing high school seniors, families, portraiture, pets, and horses. I am an artist at heart, and I love to paint and draw, so that too has found it’s way into my services.

Besides being interested in art and photography I love to watch ice hockey. I love to ride and play with my horse, Ruutu Black, it refreshes my passion for life and motivates me to spend time in front of the computer. I prefer MAC’s over Pc’s, and I love my iPod and smart phone. I love having my studio at home, because it means I can spend time with the pets I love, even when I have a 14-hour day.

I volunteer for the Isle of Wight Co. Humane Society. I have donated and supported our local community. For example I've donated portrait sessions to the American Red Cross, Isle of Wight County Schools, Isle of Wight Academy, and Relay For Life Teams.

On the left, that's me, Taunya, a "long long time ago," as a high school senior, I was borrowing Greg's SLR and probably taking pics for the yearbook. This was when I officially fell in love with taking photos. I didn't have an SLR until a few years after high school. (Note: that is my good friend, Tanja sitting next to me, on the right. We were the only two "Tonya's" in the whole school. Weird? or what? BTW: she was wearing my green overalls that day!)

Other tid-bits

In 2005 The Community PhoneBook used one of my images for the cover of the local directory.

If you are interested in having me photograph or paint for you please contact me by phone. If you still can't decide whether to hire me or not, give me a call so we can talk.
